Electronic bioengineering

This curriculum covers the area of electronics in bioengineering, with special reference to bioelectrical phenomena, sensors, instrumentation, theories and elaboration techniques. Students will thus be enabled to autonomously study, acquire, process and use biomedical signals.

The programme set out by the academic board of the Ph.D. program will be aimed at enabling students to specialize, where necessary, their knowledge in one or more of the following fields:

  • Bioengineering
  • Biological system models
  • Biomedical electronics
  • Medical informatics
  • Biomedical data processing
  • Biomaterials
  • Sensors and transducers
  • Biomechanics
  • Instrumentations for biotechnology

The majority of the above fields will be covered by the teaching staff of the Ph.D course. For those areas not covered, specific seminars by external experts will be organized.

Here are some of the subjects available for both theoretical and experimental research:

  • Biomedical sensors and transducers, biosensors
  • Electronic instrumentation for bioengineering and biotechnologies
  • Biomedical informatics
  • Processing of biomedical data, images and other signals
  • Anthropomorphic robotics
  • Electronic instrumentation for genetic screening
  • Electronics for disabled aids and for rehabilitation

The curriculum is mainly related to the disciplines of electronic bioengineering in groups ING-INF/06 (Electronic Bioengineering and Informatics) and, partially, ING-INF/01 (Elettronics) and ING-INF/05 (Information Processing Systems) of the act D.M. 04/10/2000 concerning the definition of scientific sectors of Italian university courses.
