Micro and nanoelectronic technologies, devices and systems

This curriculum belongs to the field of the integrated electronics. It includes topics related to physical electronics, materials, technological processes, devices and integrated circuits, which are the basis of micro and nanoelectronics, CAD tools for design and simulation of analog and digital systems, microsystems, nanoelectronics, measurement and diagnostics for electrical characterization, morphological and functional testing from the component to the ULSI system.

During the three-year course a plan of studies will be formulated enabling students to improve, where necessary, their knowledge of the following subjects:

  • Physical electronics
  • Optoelectronics
  • Microelectronic technologies and materials
  • Electronic devices
  • Reliability and diagnostics of devices, circuits and systems
  • Digital and analog microelectronics
  • Electronic system design
  • Power electronics
  • Electronic circuits design
  • Nanoelectronics
  • Photonics
  • Microsystems (MEMS) and integrated sensors
  • Analog and RF electronics

Some of the opportunities for theoretical and experimental research from which students can choose are:

  • Microsystems (MEMS)
  • Nanoelectronic technologies
  • RF and MW integrated circuits design
  • Physical and chemical solid-state sensors
  • Analog integrated circuits design
  • Nanoelectronics
  • Low-power and high-speed integrated circuits design
  • CAD tools and VLSI systems design
  • Electronic systems for vehicles
  • Noise and electrical measurements on micro and nanoelectronic devices
  • Electronic systems for control and power
  • Electronic systems for habitat and space
  • Microelectronic technologies and silicon micromachining
  • Electronic systems for telecommunications and multimedia

The curriculum is related to the disciplines of the ING-INF/01 (Electronics) group of the act D.M. 04/10/2000 concerning the definition of scientific sectors of Italian university courses.
