Single-Chip CMOS Wireless Transceivers: Current Status & Future Prospects
The first generation of integrated wireless transceivers implemented in the dominant IC technology, digital CMOS, is being reported on in the literature. By combining appropriate architectures, new circuit design techniques, and methods bridging the worlds of baseband and microwave circuit design, this new arrival on the wireless scene delivers competitive performance with established technologies and can take full benefit of technology scaling as predicted by Moore's Law. This presentation will illustrate these circuit techniques at work in the first all-CMOS 900 MHz single-chip radio. Some of the research in progress on radio transceivers for very high bit-rate wireless LANs and for ultra-low power receivers will be described.
